Aunt Eola's Tale

In an e-mail from Evelyn Frost Rush, 24 May 2008

Three Strikes Against Aunt Eola

Aunt Eola's mother died when she was five and Hiram Abial's second wife apparently took a dislike to Eola so Eola grew up with her uncle Wm. Henry's family. That is why she appears so often as a member of his family group. Then, as a young girl Eola was engaged to be married to a young man [Edd Platt] from Ohio who was studying to be a minister. He went home to Ohio to begin to prepare for the wedding, went swimming with his friends one day and drowned! Aunt Eola never married after that and devoted her life to helping other family members wherever she could be useful. Then Eola's sister Dora died leaving a newborn and a daughter orphaned the same way she was as a child. She was William Henry's secretary all her life and was with him and Annis when they died.
