Frank P. Moran's Story

From Evelyn Rush's record for him.

Frank was born in Dunkirk, N.Y. and grew up in Warren, PA. He graduated from High School in Pittsburgh, PA. After high school, he worked for two years for Western Electric Co., then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942.

Frank and Agnes met in Daytona Beach where he was stationed as a divebomber pilot at the Naval Air Station prior to his overseas assignment. Frank was assigned to the South Pacific where he saw combat action at the Islands of Munda, Bougaineville, Green, and Emirau.

After the war ended and Frank returned from combat, he and Agnes saw much of the world in the regular Marine Corps. Among the foreign bases where they were stationed were China, Japan, Guam, and Hawaii, while stations in the United States included El Toro and Pendleton in California, and Cherry Point, Edenton, Bogue, and New River in North Carolina. Frank retired from the Marine Corps as a Major at Quantico, VA in 1963.

Since 1963, Frank has worked in Daytona Beach, FL, first as a pilot for Doan Helicopter Service for four years then as a Professor of Aviation Maintenance at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. During his tour as professor, Frank and Agnes spent a year in Zweibrucken, Germany. After twenty three years with the university Frank again retired, this time as Professor Emeritus. Frank and Agnes lived for many years in Daytona Beach, FL where he still occasionally took adjunct faculty jobs, and both kept busy with gardening in the beautiful Florida sunshine.

Agnes and Frank received frequent visits from Frank's brothers, Bill and Bob, as his health began to decline. As is often true of men who fly, Frank had asked his brothers to honor his request that after his death his ashes be strewn over the ocean. Frank died in April 1999 and brother Bob and a pilot friend of Frank's carried out this request.
