Coral's Home Remedy?

or What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger

Chuck Berg says, “As I stated in ‘Courtship’, Coral had a mind of her own. She had a heart condition of some description. Fibrillations or skipped beats or some other malfunction and was under a doctor's care or at least in his thoughts as she was now in NY State and he was still in WA State. She used to lay down to rest two or three times a day when she was so inclined. She was not an invalid in any sense of the word. This was 1948 and since she was born in 1877, this made her 71 years old and they had just driven or taken trains across the country, WA to NY. And I believe this was part of a tour to promote activities in the Eastern Star organization where she was still Queen of The Nile (or something) and such tours and Chapter visitations were part of her national duties of office. Anyway, Coral smoked cigars every day and blew the smoke on the houseplants to chase critters away or the cigars were supposed to stimulate her heart and thus keep her in good health. I saw her chasing critters only once so it must have been her heart condition that required daily care. I don't know if her doctor was the one who prescribed the cigars or if it was a home remedy!”
